Innovating Event Experiences: How LVCVA Champions Innovation, Technology and Event Best Practices
In an exclusive interview with Nicola Kastner, CEO of Event Leaders Exchange (ELX), Rebecca DeLuca, Vice President of Destination Sales from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) explains how the organization is supporting event planners. From leveraging cutting-edge technology and innovation, to promoting sustainable practices and fostering DEIB principles, LVCVA continues to revolutionize the event industry from Las Vegas. LVCVA's values and innovation align perfectly with those of the ELX community, making Las Vegas an exceptional fit for the ELX Annual Congress 2024.
Nicola: How does LVCVA support event planners in incorporating DEIB principles into their events? What resources or programs are available to assist them?
Rebecca: The LVCVA Client Experience Team offers a program that connects event planners with local nonprofits to organize group outings designed to give back. We have found that helping to establish deeper connections between planners, events and the community contributes to a more dynamic and meaningful experience for attendees.
Nicola: How does LVCVA collaborate with event organizers to ensure sustainable practices are followed during large-scale events and conventions?
Rebecca: From significant water conservation efforts to renewable energy commitments, sustainability is a priority at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) and throughout the destination. We also ensure attendees can navigate the destination using clean transportation options including:
- The Las Vegas Monorail elevates mobility along the Las Vegas Strip, carrying over 5 million riders annually, eliminating 27 tons of emissions and more than 2.1 million vehicle miles with its autonomous, zero-emissions trains.
- Electric vehicles zip through Vegas Loop tunnels beneath the LVCC, creating zero emissions and zero additional surface congestion, and redefining transit with a sustainable alternative to traditional transportation.
Nicola: Las Vegas is known for its cutting-edge technology and entertainment. How does LVCVA leverage innovation to enhance the event experience for attendees?
Rebecca: Las Vegas is home to some of the most cutting-edge and technology-forward venues including the Sphere. The entertainment venue boasts the largest LED screen in the world, advanced audio capabilities and a completely programable exosphere that dominates the Vegas skyline allowing planners immense creativity when designing an impactful event.
Nicola: What new technologies or innovations has LVCVA introduced to improve event planning and execution in Las Vegas?
Rebecca: We recently overhauled the Vegas Means Business website allowing planners to easily access information and tools that will help ensure a smooth and informed planning process. The Vegas Unlocked: Show Your Badge and Save program was also launched in 2024, offering discounts to convention attendees at exciting venues and unique experiences across the destination, ensuring all meeting attendees feel like a Vegas VIP.
Nicola: Can you discuss any recent or upcoming projects that demonstrate Las Vegas’ commitment to innovation in the events industry?
Rebecca: The Vegas Loop will continue to expand throughout the destination with stations planned throughout the resort corridor, airport and beyond. This all-new transportation system will revolutionize how visitors navigate the destination and ensure even more connectivity. The destination also continues to invest in new and innovative event space.
Grand Prix Plaza acts as Formula 1’s pit building during the November race but when not in use for the November Las Vegas Grand Prix, offers a unique venue for hosting events for 10-10,000 people, year-round.
Nicola: How does LVCVA stay ahead of industry trends and ensure that Las Vegas remains a top choice for event planners worldwide?
Rebecca: Las Vegas is a destination built on evolution, constantly pushing the limits on what is possible. Whether hosting some of the biggest sporting events in the world or delivering innovative new venues and immersive entertainment, we make it our goal to continually raise the bar on what people can expect out of Vegas.
At the LVCVA we pride ourselves on being The Connector between our customers and hotel partners, which includes strategic partnerships, such as ELX!
